About

“th3cyb3rguy” was created to help anyone who wants to begin a career within Cyber Security, and for those that want to transition over from other technical or non-technical fields. This site will help with and explain:

• what is cyber security• industry terminology• breakdown of attacks
• free resources• cybersec safety tips• beginner guidelines
• awareness training• peer networking• global news updates

I began my cyber-journey by phreaking New York City payphones, driven by curiosity and a desire to understand how systems really worked. My early career evolved from computer graphics into web development, and after several years, I transitioned into Information Technology [IT] through multiple tiers of global help desk operations.

Over the next decade in the private manufacturing and financial services sectors, I advanced my career in Information Security [InfoSec] starting as a blue team InfoSec Analyst and progressing into a red team CyberSec Engineer and Subject Matter Expert [SME] over my focus areas of cybersecurity awareness, cyber exposure management, and cyber threat intelligence [CTI].

Volunteering in the public sector, I actively contribute to the cybersecurity community. I am a member of the FBI’s InfraGard civilian liaison program, the ISSA Upstate Greenville chapter, and serve on the BSides Greenville Advisory Board. I also support state-level efforts of the Critical Infrastructure Cybersecurity [CIC] Cyber Liaison Officer [CLO] program with the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division [SLED].

Currently as a Director of Information Security, I wear multiple hats building security programs, securing bot and web applications, cloud security, as well as embedding security into fast-moving development and operational workflows. Today, as an experienced, certified, and hands-on security practitioner, I continue to network, volunteer, mentor, and contribute across local cybersecurity, technical, and law enforcement communities working to strengthen cyber resilience and advance security awareness.
